One of the most important motivations for the development of ambient assisted living products and technologies (AAL) is the aging society. There are mainly three evident manifestations of demographic change:
This is also particularly striking for the population in Goerlitz and the Upper Lusatia (Oberlausitz). The presentation introduces an intelligent and integrated AAL-community concept considering application scenarios in apartments and houses.

The world wide web has developed from a system to show simple static websites to a distribution platform for web-applications. Nowadays, web browsers are one of the runtime environments with the largest distribution rate. Unfortunately, JavaScript is usually the only programming language that is supported by web browsers. On the other hand, the Java ecosystem supports many programming languages, but its runtime environment is unfortunately not as widespread as web browsers. As a solution of this shortcoming we propose a system that enables to run programs written for the Java runtime environment directly as JavaScript in a browser.

The talk introduces image processing algorithms and their implementation with OpenCL. In particular shot detection and shot composition algorithms have been implemented in this parallel setting and evaluated. Furthermore, a new technique is presented, which provides am means to check standard software or a given program code for OpenCL compatibility.

The requirements for the software development process are strict today. The central goal is to produce and deliver a software in a efficient manner, i.e., with high quality demands on the final product. Depending on the environment conditions and the constraints of a project the development process and the used tooling have to be adopted flexibly. The talk analyzes in particular the agile development process in the Java environment. We try to answer questions of which tooling causes gaps in the process and how the gaps can be closed in practice. Our considerations show that a vendor crossing integration of tools is inevitable. A description of the requirements for such an integration solution is presented.

GridLAB-D is a new power distribution system simulation and analysis tool that provides valuable information to users who design and operate distribution systems, and to utilities that wish to take advantage of the latest energy technologies. It incorporates the most advanced modeling techniques, with high-performance algorithms to deliver the best in end-use modeling. GridLAB-D is coupled with distribution automation models and software integration tools for users of many power system analysis tools. The talk gives an introduction to the software and describes its application to the modeling of the energy systems of a housing area with different small power plants and energy storages.

The talk considers the utilization of GPU parallelization for difficult combinatorial optimization problems. As exemplary cases the three NP-hard optimization tasks Job Shop Scheduling, Flow Shop Problem and Aircraft Landing Problem are presented along with the latest developments and state of the art approaches to solve them using GPUs. Finally we present directions and future work on implementing metaheuristic algorithms and hybridizations thereof to solve these problems in a parallelized fashion.

The talk is about enterprise application integration (EAI) in the cloud or ‘cloud integration’. First a brief introduction to EAI is given. Then the need for cloud integration is explained and existing definitions for EAI in the cloud are presented. Additional challenges are highlighted and existing software solutions and cloud integration vendors are presented as well.
