Technical assistance systems and Ambient Assisted Living have the potential to enable older people to stay and live independently in their familiar living environment, which essentially reflects a higher quality of life for them. Additionally this relieves the social security system and hence the public budget from the tremendous costs for residential care. Unfortunately most people don’t know about these options or how to get help for financing them.
This project develops the VATI technology navigator, an interactive and web-based platform on which older people and their relatives can find easily accessible all necessary informations, free from economic interests. In addition, it considers societal aspects and conducts a longitudinal study with respect to experiences, barriers and ideas for improvement dealing with technological appliances.
