The Round Table Software Engineering is a cooperation of the University of Applied Sciences Zittau Goerlitz and local businesses of the IT-Industry.
The project aims to exchange information and to intensify the cooperation between the companies on site with the University. The project has been initiated by Wilfried Honekamp in 2010 and now led by Jörg Lässig with the intention to further push the cooperation. The regular meetings mainly address the requirements of the participating companies and the students of the department of Computer Science and take opportunities for cooperation and joint projects to strengthen the IT Location Görlitz. The participants of the round table agree that industry and academia must cooperate closely.
The education of the students at the university is synchronized with the needs of the economy and the IT-companies in the region. Also the initiative tries to inspire more young people to study Computer Science since there is still a lack of skilled workers in the IT-industry in Görlitz. In cooperation projects the students work on practical tasks of the cooperationg companies and get introduced to the needs and conventions in practice. The companies on the other hand get in contact with young talends. At the same time, the students are able to improve their skills and working methods utilizing the practical knowledge which the participating companies provide. This can undoubtedly directly after graduation lead to employment.
The Round Table Software Engineering is held once every six months.
